Orks in Total War: WARHAMMER 40,000

Mobs, ramshackle walkers, and a WAAAGH! that wants the whole planet as a factory.

Orks in Total War: WARHAMMER 40,000

Orks are the mob launch race in Total War: WARHAMMER 40,000. Creative Assembly has shown them as the opposite of a Space Marine Strike Force: more bodies, louder guns, ramshackle walkers, and a campaign that builds on the dirt instead of upgrading a fleet in orbit. Bad Moons are the confirmed lore clan. Ghazghkull Mag Uruk Thraka is the Ork face of the Armageddon story, locked in a war with Commissar Yarrick that the Skulls 2026 teaser put back on the line.

This page is the green tide as confirmed on stage: mobs, Meganobz, Deff Dreads, the Stompa, and the WAAAGH! as faction identity. We will not invent Speed Freeks, named kults, or a Gargant CA has not shown. Steal a skeleton from Ork builds, then read the matchup from the other side of the river in how to beat Orks so you know what a gunline is trying to do to you.

What Creative Assembly has actually shown

The same Gamescom 2026 and Alpha Strike battles that teach Imperial cover also teach Ork problems. A four-unit Space Marine Strike Force hunts a crash while an Ork host fields far more bodies. Guard holds a river crossing against a green tide. Those sessions are not flavour. They are the loop: you win with numbers, walkers, and a WAAAGH! that reaches cover-to-cover. You lose if the whole mob arrives as one clump that a bombardment or a Baneblade deletes.

Confirmed kits so far:

  • Mobs — the core. Orks are a horde in a game built around guns. That only works if you use ruins as stepping stones instead of a parade into overlapping fire.
  • Meganobz — elite smash, the answer to Terminators and the nightmare of a Kasrkin squad that stayed too long.
  • Deff Dreads — ramshackle walkers that give you weight before the Stompa arrives.
  • Stompa — the big walker on the preview stage. Treat it as a win condition you still have to screen, not as an I-win button in the open.
  • WAAAGH! — faction identity, not a tooltip joke. When it is rolling, the Astra Militarum gunline has a timer.

If a unit is missing, it is missing because this game has not shown it. The closed beta later in 2026 and the 2027 release will expand the roster inside one title, the way director Attila Mohacsi has framed the whole project: no numbered sequels, years of expansion.

Campaign: industrialise the planet

Ork campaign identity is the ground. Creative Assembly has contrasted two economies in public. Space Marines upgrade fleets in orbit and drop Strike Forces. Orks industrialise the planets they take. That is the economy fact we have. We will not invent scrap, teef, or extra bars CA has not named.

On the galactic map that still means planets, fleets, and governors with personality. You still chain system campaigns into crusade theaters that can run past 600 turns. You still end up on the road to Armageddon. The difference is what a held world is for. An Ork planet is a factory and a WAAAGH! engine. If you play them like Empire in WARHAMMER III and only care about the next settlement upgrade, you are missing the joke CA actually told: the dirt is the point.

Orbital bombardment and world-destroying weapons exist as confirmed toys for the wider crusade. They are also why an Ork player who blobs every army on one tile is handing the Imperium a highlight reel.

Ghazghkull, Yarrick, and the Era Indomitus

The setting is the Era Indomitus. The destination CA has named is Armageddon. The Skulls 2026 teaser is Yarrick’s vow, which is also an Ork promise: the hives, regions, and continents are infested; the planet and the subsector bleed; there will be no retreat. The Old Man will make Ghazghkull pay for every bloody step taken upon Armageddon. Play Orks if you want to be those steps.

Ghazghkull is the named Ork warlord of that story. Bad Moons are the named clan. Each launch race still gets two lore sub-factions; CA has not put a second clan name on the same public slide. Do not assume Goffs, Deathskulls, or Evil Sunz until they are shown. Custom warlords exist at launch for Orks as for everyone else: name, paint, traits, mixed wargear. Traitor Guard is a Guard reskin, not an Ork mechanic. Chaos Space Marines are post-launch.

David Harbour appeared in a mysterious role at The Game Awards on 11 December 2025. That is not confirmation he voices Ghazghkull.

How to play the WAAAGH! without feeding the gunline

  1. Do not arrive as one clump. Split approaches so a single bombardment cannot delete the WAAAGH!.
  2. Use ruins. This is a gun game. Mobs that walk the open against Leman Russ and a Baneblade are compost.
  3. Screen the Stompa and the Deff Dreads. Super-heavies without a mob in front become trophies for Kasrkin and overlapping fire.
  4. Spend Meganobz on the unit that actually matters — the tank, the warlord, the ruin that breaks the line — not on the first Shock Troops you see.
  5. Time the WAAAGH! for the moment the gunline cannot sentry-mode its way out of melee.
  6. On the campaign map, industrialise. A pretty fleet you never use is a Space Marine plan.

Read how to beat Orks as a threat briefing, then build the list that survives it in Ork builds. Check the early unit tier list only as a preview read, labelled as such, not as a finished codex.

Who should main Orks

Main Orks if you want numbers, walkers, Ghazghkull’s war, and a campaign that turns planets into factories. Skip them if you only want twelve models and a Librarian. Total War: WARHAMMER 40,000 is still in development for a 2027 release. The closed beta later in 2026 is where this WAAAGH! will be stress-tested against real gunlines. Until CA names the second clan, play the Bad Moons and the mob you have been shown.

Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the most common Total War: WARHAMMER 40,000 questions.

Which Ork clan is confirmed in Total War: WARHAMMER 40,000?

Bad Moons are the named lore clan. Each race still gets two lore sub-factions; CA has not put a second clan name on the same public slide.

Is Ghazghkull in the game?

Ghazghkull is the Ork face of the Armageddon story, set against Commissar Yarrick. The Skulls 2026 teaser is built around that rivalry.

What Ork units have been shown?

Mobs, Meganobz, Deff Dreads, and the Stompa, plus WAAAGH! as faction identity. We do not list kults or walkers CA has not put on screen.

How does the Ork campaign differ from Space Marines?

Orks industrialise planets they hold. Space Marines upgrade fleets in orbit and drop Strike Forces. That contrast is the campaign fact CA has actually stated.

How do I stop my mob dying to a gunline?

Do not arrive as one clump, use ruins, screen the Stompa, and time the WAAAGH!. Read how to beat Orks to see the Guard plan, then build around it.
