Road to Armageddon in Total War: WARHAMMER 40,000

Armageddon is the named destination of the campaign in Total War: WARHAMMER 40,000. Creative Assembly did not tease a generic late-game planet. It put Commissar Yarrick on a line at Warhammer Skulls 2026 and pointed the galactic sandbox at the subsector that has defined Imperial–Ork war for decades. The setting is the Era Indomitus. The rivalry is Yarrick versus Ghazghkull Mag Uruk Thraka. The launch races that live inside that story most clearly are Astra Militarum and Orks, with Space Marines as the Imperial scalpel and Aeldari still waiting for equal camera time.

This page is the road as shown, not a mission-by-mission spoiler of a 2027 box that does not exist yet. Pair it with the campaign hub, the galactic map, and crusade theaters. Then pick a side on the Astra Militarum or Orks pages — or drop a Space Marine Strike Force into someone else’s war.

The Skulls 2026 vow

The official teaser that landed at Warhammer Skulls 2026 is still the cleanest narrative statement Creative Assembly has given. Yarrick’s broadcast, in the words of the trailer:

Orks swarm across our world. The hives, the regions, the continents are infested. The planet, the entire subsector bleeds — a theatre of endless war. There will be no retreat. This world belongs to humanity. We will drive the invaders back. And this Old Man will make Ghazghkull pay for every bloody step taken upon Armageddon. The Emperor demands it… I demand it.

That quote is why this wiki has an Armageddon page. It names the enemy, the scale (hive, region, continent, planet, subsector), the refusal to retreat, and the personal hatred that tabletop players already know. It is also a campaign design document in miniature. A theater of endless war is what crusade theaters are for. A bleeding subsector is what the galactic map is for. Bloody steps on the dirt are what Cadian gunlines and Ork mobs are for.

David Harbour appeared in a mysterious role at The Game Awards on 11 December 2025. That credit is not, by itself, a confirmation that he is the Old Man on this tape. The Skulls teaser is Yarrick. We keep the Hollywood mystery and the commissar separate until CA staples them together.

Who is on the road

Confirmed faces and kits that actually belong here:

  • Commissar Yarrick — Guard face of the story, the Old Man of the teaser.
  • Ghazghkull Mag Uruk Thraka — Ork face of the story, the beast the Old Man intends to make pay.
  • Cadians — named Astra Militarum lore sub-faction, the gunline CA has shown holding rivers against green tides.
  • Bad Moons — named Ork lore clan. Each race still gets two sub-factions; a second Guard regiment and a second Ork clan have not been named on the same slides.
  • Ultramarines — named Space Marine chapter, available as the orbital scalpel on the same road.

We will not invent Helsreach mission titles, Black Templars, or a fourth War for Armageddon timeline CA has not labelled. The Era Indomitus is the era we have been given. Custom warlords exist at launch if you want to walk that road as yourself. Traitor Guard is a Guard reskin if you want the gunline heretical. Chaos Space Marines are post-launch, not an Armageddon surprise race.

How a crusade gets here

Attila Mohacsi’s nested campaign is the mechanical road. You fight a planetary war — a crash site, a river, a hive. That war chains into a star-system campaign. Systems chain into a crusade theater that can run past 600 turns. The named end of that nesting is Armageddon. That does not mean every first save starts on the ash wastes. It means the sandbox is pointed at a place tabletop fans already fear, and that ignoring the subsector is how Yarrick’s broadcast comes true without you.

Faction posture still matters on the approach. Space Marines upgrade fleets in orbit and drop Strike Forces. Orks industrialise planets they take — a WAAAGH! that wants every rock as a factory on the way in. Guard lives on the dirt with overlapping Leman Russ, Rogal Dorn, and Baneblade fire. Aeldari remain the least shown; do not bolt them onto Yarrick’s vow until CA does.

Orbital bombardment and world-destroying weapons are confirmed toys on this road. They are also a warning. Armageddon as a name dies if you planet-kill it on turn twenty. The teaser is about steps taken upon the world, not about deleting the world from the map because the button existed.

How to play toward Armageddon without spoiling a box that is not out

  1. Learn the gun game. The public battles on this road are Marines versus Orks and Guard versus Orks. Cover, sentry mode, and not arriving as one clump decide more than a legendary-lord duel.
  2. Pick a face. Yarrick’s gunline, Ghazghkull’s mob, or a Marine scalpel. Aeldari if you accept less footage.
  3. Treat the theater as the war. Winning one planet is not driving the invaders back from a subsector.
  4. Industrialise or orbit on purpose. The two named economies are how the road feels different, not how you skip it.
  5. Register for the closed beta later in 2026 if you want to walk any of this before the 2027 release.
  6. Come back when CA names the next transmission. The Skulls teaser itself promised more cycles. This page will grow with them, not with invented mission titles.

Total War: WARHAMMER 40,000 is one game Creative Assembly intends to expand for years. Armageddon is the flag in the dirt at the start of that expansion. The Old Man has made his demand. The WAAAGH! is already on the hives. The rest is a galactic map you have not finished painting.

Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the most common Total War: WARHAMMER 40,000 questions.

Is Armageddon the whole campaign in Total War: WARHAMMER 40,000?

It is the named destination of the nested crusade, not a promise that every save starts on the ash wastes. Planetary wars and system campaigns chain toward that subsector.

What did Yarrick say in the Skulls 2026 teaser?

That Orks infest hives, regions, and continents; that the planet and subsector bleed; that there will be no retreat; and that this Old Man will make Ghazghkull pay for every bloody step taken upon Armageddon.

Are Yarrick and Ghazghkull playable?

They are the confirmed faces of the Armageddon story for Guard and Orks. CA has not published a full lord roster; we will not invent extra legendary lords around them.

Which factions belong on this road?

All four launch races can crusade, but Cadians, Bad Moons, Yarrick, and Ghazghkull are the named Armageddon pieces. Ultramarines are the named Marine chapter on the same Imperial side.

Is David Harbour Yarrick?

Harbour appeared in a mysterious role at The Game Awards 2025. The Skulls teaser is Yarrick. This wiki does not staple those credits together until Creative Assembly does.
